Our clients’ privacy has always been of utmost importance to Fry Bros and prior to the Act being legislated Fry Bros has had measures in place to ensure the privacy of our clients’ personal information. Fry Bros will continue under the new Privacy Act to ensure that all clients’ personal details are kept confidential and secure.

We may from time to time review and update this policy to comply with our legal obligations, to reflect changes in technology and to our operations and practices, and to ensure it remains relevant to our environment. Examples of Personal Information that Fry Bros collect include: names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, gender, marriage details, employment details and medicare/centrelink details. Fry Bros needs this information to fulfil their legal obligations as a funeral director and provide clients with the level of service they require.

We will generally collect your personal information by way of forms filled out either by yourself or your next of kin/executor/responsible person, face-to-face meetings, interviews, telephone calls and website or other electronic data. Overseas disclosures: We will only disclose personal information about you or your loved one outside Australia where you have agreed to this. Where you make such a request, you agree and acknowledge that we will have no control over the information that we disclose, and that we will not be able to ensure that the overseas recipient handles that information in accordance with the Privacy Act, the Australian Privacy Principles and any other applicable Australian laws. Examples include:

• The publication on the internet of material which may contain personal information such as names, family relationships, photographs, video and audio recordings, and posts and comments on our social media platforms.
• The provision of personal information to recipients using a web-based email account where data is stored on an overseas server;
• Liaising with government and administrative bodies where repatriation of the deceased is required either to or from Australia
• The provision of personal information to foreign governments and law enforcement agencies (in limited circumstances and where authorised by law).

Our staff are required to respect the confidentiality of the information and privacy of individuals. We have processes in place to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure by use of various methods including locked storage of paper records and password restricted access rights to computerised records. Where we no longer require personal information for a purpose required under the Privacy Act, we will take reasonable action to destroy or de-identify that information, unless it would be unlawful for us to do so.
